Watch Over Us

Cont'd from page 1

God is the Watcher. We can take comfort in the fact that He is in full control of everything, including each one of us and everything that happens to us. If we reverence God and worship Him alone, then we know that whatever happens to us will be the best thing for us. When we have difficulty, we can always see how God protected us from worse harm. He is the Provider and the Protector.

[4:1] O people, observe your Lord; the One who created you from one being, and created from it its mate, then spread from the two many men and women. You shall regard GOD, by whom you swear, and regard the parents. GOD is watching over you.

I found that Psalm 121 in the Old Testament gives us exactly the same knowledge and wisdom.

1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
    where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
    the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord watches over you—
    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all harm—
    he will watch over your life;
8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.

Praise God. He watches over us. There’s so much danger in this world, but God is always there for us. How can we ever thank Him enough?

[89:14] Your Lord is ever watchful.

Patience

One important quality or skill that a submitter must work on is Patience. We have developed, worked hard and learnt from many experiences to show Patience in every situation. Every time we show patience, if you think about it, has been rewarding.

Patience shows a strength of faith and belief that God is in full control of all things at all times. God’s timing for everything is perfect for each and every one of His creations. Everyone’s life has been planned out in detail as per the Will of God so He exhorts us to be Patient and have Faith in Him as He is the All-knowing Creator.

God is with the ones who are Patient and God loves those who exhibit this quality. Think of the story of Joseph, and how Jacob shows exemplary patience in the face of losing his son (Sura 12). He says: All I can do is resort to a quiet patience.

Resorting to patience in everyday life, situations with family, friends, colleagues, workers, etc., shows a great sign of maturity and tolerance. It is a very rewarding trait in the long run. Impatience shows immaturity and a lack of compassion and empathy.

Patience is your ability to wait without becoming annoyed, upset, or angry. It’s when you exercise self-control rather than lashing out and complaining. You’re being patient when you take deep breaths and seek inner peace after things don’t go the way you hoped. Practicing patience is all about how you act.

[16:127] You shall resort to patience―and your patience is attainable only with GOD’s help. Do not grieve over them, and do not be annoyed by their schemes.[16:128] GOD is with those who lead a righteous life, and those who are charitable.

[42:43] Resorting to patience and forgiveness reflects a true strength of character.

[70:5] Therefore, you shall resort to a gracious patience.

[46:35] Therefore, be patient like the messengers before you who possessed strength and resorted to patience. Do not be in a hurry to see the retribution that will inevitably come to them. The day they see it, it will seem as if they lasted one hour of the day. This is a proclamation: Is it not the wicked who are consistently annihilated?

Winners and Losers

Every year there’s a Super Bowl, a World Series, and a Stanley Cup. The winning team and their fans are extremely happy. That happiness may last for weeks, even months, with celebrations, parades, visits to the White House.

And it’s not just the big game; there’s all the work that it takes to get there. To get to the NFL, they estimate that a child will probably have logged in about 10,000 hours of practice starting from their school years. The time and money spent to reach the top echelon of a sport and then to remain there is staggering. Practice, team meetings, treatment of injuries, weight training—the list goes on and on.

It’s huge, but in a short while, it will fade from our memory and from the public consciousness. Who won Super Bowl XX? Does anyone remember? And it’s not just football, you take any sport or any event from decades ago, people don’t care. One could say, it’s just a game.
