The main objective of salat is the remembrance of GOD (29:45). If we can concentrate in our salat and absorb the words and their meaning and remember how we are standing in front of the Lord of the universe, it would make a huge difference in our daily lives and help us in perfecting our light on the day of resurrection.

Similarly, if our fasting of the body can be augmented by fasting of our other faculties: like the tongue—refraining from vain talk, backbiting etc.; the eyes—subduing our eyes; the mind—thinking constantly about GOD, glorifying GOD, magnifying GOD, etc. All of that would benefit us much more than only practicing fasting for the body. Charity done with the intention of pleasing GOD, not to show off, is key. GOD also says charity has various forms like forgiving peoples’ transgressions, controlling your anger, being humble. All these are also forms of charity which will help us in perfecting our light.

These nuances can enhance our submission and perfect our light and lead us far away from the terrible darkness. In this state your heart will become softened.

 

And the softness of your heart can intensify your faith. In that state you feel the Quran when you are reading it. You imagine standing in purgatory recognizing each side by its looks and hoping that you will be redeemed back to GOD’s heaven. And that motivates you to work harder so you don’t have to wait to enter Paradise. So first look inside yourself and fight with your own ego. That’s how you find your light and escape the terrifying darkness.

[24:35] GOD is the light of the heavens and the earth. The allegory of His light is that of a concave mirror behind a lamp that is placed inside a glass container. The glass container is like a bright, pearl-like star. The fuel thereof is supplied from a blessed oil-producing tree, that is neither eastern, nor western. Its oil is almost self-radiating; needs no fire to ignite it. Light upon light. GOD guides to His light whomever He wills. GOD thus cites the parables for the people. GOD is fully aware of all things.

[24:40] Another allegory is that of being in total darkness in the midst of a violent ocean, with waves upon waves, in addition to thick fog. Darkness upon darkness—if he looked at his own hand, he could barely see it. Whomever GOD deprives of light, will have no light.
