Rearranging Our Priorities

[Quran 18:46] Money and children are the joys of this life, but the righteous works provide an eternal recompense from your Lord, and a far better hope.

[Quran 4:134] Anyone who seeks the materials of this world should know that GOD possesses both the materials of this world and the Hereafter. GOD is Hearer, Seer.


Some call it greed. Some call it materialism. No matter what we call it, the question is what are we spending most of our time doing? Did most of our time this past week go in activities related to acquiring or taking care of our money, business, children or property? There is nothing wrong in enjoying God's blessings, but we don't want to make it the center of our life. Otherwise, no matter how successful we are, we may be unwittingly chasing a mirage. And if worldly blessings are the only things that make us happy--then it is time to reflect, as this is a shell compared to what true happiness is.

We really know what happiness is when we experience closeness to God. And God has given us a road map to get there. So let us start planning. Just like we enjoy shopping and investing in this worldly life--let us regularly fill up our forever or "Hereafter cart". That is a cart that is open to everyone. It's a cart that doesn't cost us each time we fill it up, instead it only improves our balance at God.

What will we do today to fill up our "Hereafter cart"?
