Subject: [Masjid Tucson] Submission weekly reminder In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful Peace be upon you, The Second Commandment [Quran 31:14] We enjoined the human being to honor his parents. His mother bore him, and the load got heavier and heavier. It takes two years (of intensive care) until weaning. You shall be appreciative of Me, and of your parents. To Me is the ultimate destiny. Mother's day is this weekend. It is a good opportunity for us to remember one of God's blessings -- our parents. Along with this blessing comes the responsibility of honoring and regarding our parents. This is not always easy, and that's why the reminder occurs multiple times in the Quran (Quran 2:83, 4:1, 6:151, etc.). Other scriptures, e.g., the Bible also have similar commandments. In the Quran, the reminder to honor one's parents follows the commandment to worship God alone in several verses, e.g., 2:83, 4:1, 6:151, 17:23-24, and it has been termed "second commandment" because of that. Naturally, our devotion and loyalty to God Almighty always comes first (Quran 29:8). May God help us to appreciate His blessings including the blessings of our mothers and fathers.
