Subject: [Masjid Tucson] Submission weekly reminder In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful ** Ramadan: Ramadan starts 18 Feb in USA, God willing. Please see https://masjidtucson.org/submission/practices/ramadan/#dates for more details ** Peace be upon you, [Quran 2:183-184] O you who believe, fasting is decreed for you, as it was decreed for those before you, that you may attain salvation. Specific days (are designated for fasting); if one is ill or traveling, an equal number of other days may be substituted. Those who can fast, but with great difficulty, may substitute feeding one poor person for each day of breaking the fast. If one volunteers (more righteous works), it is better. But fasting is the best for you, if you only knew. Ramadan, the month of fasting, begins next week. Each fast lasts from dawn until sunset. Why should we fast? The reason is all religious duties, including fasting, are a gift from God. These practices constitute the nourishment required for the growth and development of our souls. Without such nourishment, we cannot survive the immense energy associated with God's physical presence on the Day of Judgment. Besides nourishing our soul, the real self, fasting has many benefits for our health and well-being. May God help us observe this month and draw closer to Him.
