Dalori, Nigeria terrorist attack: against Quran and Submission (Islam) |
||||||
Masjid Tucson condemns the brutal terror attack in Dalori in Northeastern Nigeria. Terrorists used guns and bombs to attack and kill scores of men, women and children. News reports suggest the massacre was carried out by a group "Boko Haram". This terrorist group has in the past claimed responsibility for killing many innocent victims including school children (e.g., according to BBC News, Boko Haram's so-called "Islamist" terrorism has claimed thousands of lives and displaced more than two million people over the past six years).
God condemns such bad behavior in the Quran (17:33-38). God tells us that life is sacred (6:151, 17:33, 25:68) and forbids oppression and murder (5:32, 2:85, 2:190-191, 2:217). There is never a reason to justify murder or any type of aggression in Quran.
[Quran 17:33] You shall not kill any person―for GOD has made life sacred―except in the course of justice. ...
[Quran 17:38] All bad behavior is condemned by your Lord.
A terrorist by definition is an aggressor (and depending on their actions, an oppressor and/or a murderer). God tells us in the Quran that He does not love the aggressors (2:190-193). The Quran informs us that a righteous person must never aggress, nor be violent or belligerent (5:87, 7:33, 42:42, 50:25, 22:72, and many more verses). By disobeying God and obeying some other leader, terrorists are choosing not to be Submitters to God (Muslims in Arabic) but instead choosing to submit to some tyrannical human leader as their "god".
[Quran 5:87] O you who believe, do not prohibit good things that are made lawful by GOD, and do not aggress; GOD dislikes the aggressors.
[Quran 3:104] Let there be a community of you who invite to what is good, advocate righteousness, and forbid evil. These are the winners.
Murder, Suicide, and Illicit Gains Prohibited
[Quran 4:29] O you who believe, do not consume each others' properties illicitly―only mutually acceptable transactions are permitted. You shall not kill yourselves. GOD is Merciful towards you.
To summarize, the religion of Islam (Submission) forbids terrorist attacks in all forms. The Quran teaches absolute freedom of religion (2:256, 18:29), and God makes it clear that life is sacred (6:151, 17:33, 25:68). The focus is on worship of God and seeking God's approval in our daily lives. Our worship is best attained in peace (2:126, 14:35). Submission (Islam) recognizes that salvation can be attained by anyone who believes in God, believes in the Hereafter and leads a righteous life (5:69).
We suggest readers see what God says in the Quran by reading it themselves.
