International Community of Submitters (ICS) / Masjid Tucson offers our sincere condolences to the families of the victims of the terror attacks. We pray that God guides the people of the world to peace and away from violence and bloodshed.
Over the past week, the world has seen another spate of terrorist attacks. Over 100 were killed in Kabul (and hundreds more injured) when a truck bomb exploded in a crowded neighborhood. The funeral for one of the victims was a target for another attack which caused a large number of fatalities and injuries. Iraq has continued to see multiple attacks. A large number of people were killed and injured when a refugee camp was attacked by Boko Haram in Kolofata, Cameroon. In London, a vehicle ran over multiple pedestrians at the London Bridge and the attackers left the vehicle to stab more innocent victims. Many more men, women and children were unjustly targeted by terrorists claiming allegiance or affinity to some so-called "Islamic" cause.
The attackers, ignorant of God's teachings in Quran, failed to see that their brutal and evil actions were inspired by Satan and condemned by God (Quran 7:28-29, 4:29-30, 17:38). God teaches us in the Quran that there is no compulsion in religion (Quran 2:256, 18:29, 10:99, 88:21-22). We are encouraged to treat people amicably, pray for peace, and never aggress (Quran 60:8-9, 14:35, 2:83, 5:87, etc.).
No Compulsion in Religion
[Quran 2:256] There shall be no compulsion in religion: the right way is now distinct from the wrong way. Anyone who denounces the devil and believes in GOD has grasped the strongest bond; one that never breaks. GOD is Hearer, Omniscient.
[Quran 7:28-29] They commit a gross sin, then say, "We found our parents doing this, and GOD has commanded us to do it." Say, "GOD never advocates sin. Are you saying about GOD what you do not know?" Say, "My Lord advocates justice, and to stand devoted to Him alone at every place of worship. You shall devote your worship absolutely to Him alone. Just as He initiated you, you will ultimately go back to Him."
God never justifies nor condones violence against innocent people. There is simply no justification for aggression, violence and murder. The grossness of murder is highlighted in the Quran and other scriptures:
Grossness of Murder
[Quran 5:32] Because of this, we decreed for the Children of Israel that anyone who murders any person who had not committed murder or horrendous crimes, it shall be as if he murdered all the people. And anyone who spares a life it shall be as if he spared the lives of all the people. Our messengers went to them with clear proofs and revelations, but most of them, after all this, are still transgressing.
The terrorists and their hate-mongering religious leaders abuse religion for their corrupted goals. They conceal the Quranic verses that make it clear that fighting must only be in self-defense and that God does not love the aggressors nor violence (Quran 2:190-193, 5:87, 7:33, 42:42, 50:24-25, 22:72, etc.). Instead, they take certain verses out of context, omitting the fact that the verses only justify fighting in self-defense, and they use satan-inspired man-made sources such as Hadith or Sunnah, that go against God's words in Quran.
God says life is sacred (Quran 6:151, 17:33, 25:68). God also says that we should treat the people equitably (i.e., like how we would want them to treat us) unless they attack you because of religion (Quran 60:8-9). Unfortunately most people do not read the Quran and rely on what their religious leaders tell them with disastrous consequences.
[Quran 5:87] O you who believe, do not prohibit good things that are made lawful by GOD, and do not aggress; GOD dislikes the aggressors.
Rules of War*
[Quran 2:190] You may fight in the cause of GOD against those who attack you, but do not aggress. GOD does not love the aggressors.
*2:190 All fighting is regulated by the basic rule in 60:8-9. Fighting is allowed strictly in self-defense, while aggression and oppression are strongly condemned throughout the Quran.
The Major Commandments
[Quran 6:151] Say, "Come let me tell you what your Lord has really prohibited for you: ... You shall not commit gross sins, obvious or hidden. You shall not kill―GOD has made life sacred―except in the course of justice. These are His commandments to you, that you may understand."
Basic Law Regulating Relations With Unbelievers
[Quran 60:8-9] GOD does not enjoin you from befriending those who do not fight you because of religion, and do not evict you from your homes. You may befriend them and be equitable towards them. GOD loves the equitable. GOD enjoins you only from befriending those who fight you because of religion, evict you from your homes, and band together with others to banish you. You shall not befriend them. Those who befriend them are the transgressors.
To conclude, the religion of Islam (Submission) teaches that life is sacred. Terrorism has no place in God's religion. It goes against the Quranic teachings of sanctity of life, peaceful co-existence, and freedom for the people including freedom of religion (2:256, 18:29, 10:99, 88:21-22). A righteous person will seek to live and worship God in peace (2:126, 14:35), and will not support terrorism.
[Quran 3:104] Let there be a community of you who invite to what is good, advocate righteousness, and forbid evil. These are the winners.
Abraham
[Quran 14:35] Recall that Abraham said, "My Lord, make this a peaceful land, and protect me and my children from worshiping idols.
We suggest readers see what God says in the Quran by reading it themselves.
