The Normandy church attack An evil act against Quranic teachings of freedom of religion

International Community of Submitters (ICS) / Masjid Tucson offers our condolences to the families of the victims of the terror attack in Normandy, France.

God teaches us in the Quran that there is no compulsion in religion (Quran 2:256, 18:29). There is no justification for aggression and violence towards (nor of killing) members of other faiths (whether Christians, Jews or some other faiths).

The Quran teaches clearly in 2:62, 5:69, & 60:8 that the Jews and Christians who (1) believe in God, (2) believe in the Hereafter, and (3) lead a righteous life, are believers who will go to heaven. Yet, religious leaders misguided by Satan advocate violence towards Christians and Jews. We call on true Submitters (in Arabic: Muslims), to stand up for the Quran. God's system is peaceful coexistence, not aggression & violence.

No Compulsion in Religion

[Quran 2:256] There shall be no compulsion in religion: the right way is now distinct from the wrong way. Anyone who denounces the devil and believes in GOD has grasped the strongest bond; one that never breaks. GOD is Hearer, Omniscient.

The Major Commandments

[Quran 6:151] Say, "Come let me tell you what your Lord has really prohibited for you: ... You shall not commit gross sins, obvious or hidden. You shall not kill―GOD has made life sacred―except in the course of justice. These are His commandments to you, that you may understand."

Grossness of Murder

[Quran 5:32] Because of this, we decreed for the Children of Israel that anyone who murders any person who had not committed murder or horrendous crimes, it shall be as if he murdered all the people. And anyone who spares a life it shall be as if he spared the lives of all the people. Our messengers went to them with clear proofs and revelations, but most of them, after all this, are still transgressing.

God also teaches us in the Quran that He does not love the aggressors (Quran 2:190-193). Terrorists are not Submitters to God (Muslims in Arabic). The Quran informs us that a righteous person must never aggress, nor be violent or belligerent (Quran 5:87, 7:33, 42:42, 50:24-25, 22:72, and many more verses).

[Quran 5:87] O you who believe, do not prohibit good things that are made lawful by GOD, and do not aggress; GOD dislikes the aggressors.

[Quran 3:104] Let there be a community of you who invite to what is good, advocate righteousness, and forbid evil. These are the winners.

To summarize, the religion of Islam (Submission) teaches absolute freedom of religion (2:256, 18:29). God makes it clear that life is sacred (6:151, 17:33, 25:68) and the Quran forbids murder and terrorist attacks in all forms. We suggest readers see what God says in the Quran by reading it themselves.
