Westminster, London terrorist attack is not Islamic Terrorism is evil; goes against Quranic teachings of peace, non-aggression, and sanctity of life

International Community of Submitters (ICS) / Masjid Tucson offers our condolences to the families of the victims of the terror attack in London, UK.

The attacker, Khalid Masood, a British citizen who converted to Islam in prison, appears to have been motivated by misguided religious zeal. While some details about the attacker's motivation and affiliation remain unclear at the time of writing this editorial, we want readers to know that no religion of God would ever justify or condone violence against innocent people. There is simply no justification for aggression, violence and murder. The grossness of murder is highlighted in the Quran:

Grossness of Murder

[Quran 5:32] Because of this, we decreed for the Children of Israel that anyone who murders any person who had not committed murder or horrendous crimes, it shall be as if he murdered all the people. And anyone who spares a life it shall be as if he spared the lives of all the people. Our messengers went to them with clear proofs and revelations, but most of them, after all this, are still transgressing.

What may come as a surprise to some is the fact is that the religion of Islam (Submission) forbids murder and terrorist attacks in all forms. God makes it clear in the Quran that life is sacred (6:151, 17:33, 25:68). For those who truly strive to worship God and seek God's approval, they know their worship is best attained in peace (2:126, 14:35). Submission (Islam) recognizes that salvation can be attained by anyone who believes in God, believes in the Hereafter and leads a righteous life (5:69). Furthermore, the Quran teaches that there should be maximum freedom of religion (2:256, 18:29).

The Major Commandments

[Quran 6:151] Say, "Come let me tell you what your Lord has really prohibited for you: ... You shall not commit gross sins, obvious or hidden. You shall not kill―GOD has made life sacred―except in the course of justice. These are His commandments to you, that you may understand."

No Compulsion in Religion

[Quran 2:256] There shall be no compulsion in religion: the right way is now distinct from the wrong way. Anyone who denounces the devil and believes in GOD has grasped the strongest bond; one that never breaks. GOD is Hearer, Omniscient.

God also teaches us in the Quran that He does not love the aggressors (Quran 2:190-193). Terrorism is not compatible with God's religion, nor is it condoned by God, nor by those who practice the religion of Submission to God (in Arabic, Islam). The Quran teaches us that a righteous person must never aggress, nor be violent or belligerent (Quran 5:87, 7:33, 42:42, 50:24-25, 22:72, etc.).

[Quran 5:87] O you who believe, do not prohibit good things that are made lawful by GOD, and do not aggress; GOD dislikes the aggressors.

[Quran 3:104] Let there be a community of you who invite to what is good, advocate righteousness, and forbid evil. These are the winners.

To summarize, the religion of Islam (Submission) teaches us that life is sacred (6:151, 17:33, 25:68). The Quran forbids murder and terrorist attacks in all forms. We suggest readers see what God says in the Quran by reading it themselves.
