Salaam alaikum,

The stereotypical view of Islam today sees the religion as primitive and aggressive. God willing, we try and lead our lives as examples of those who seek peace and those who are patient.

Resorting to patience and forgiveness reflects a true strength of character. [42:43]

You should eagerly race towards forgiveness from your Lord and a Paradise whose width encompasses the heavens and the earth; it awaits the righteous, who give to charity during the good times, as well as the bad times. They are suppressors of anger, and pardoners of the people. GOD loves the charitable. [3:133-134] 

True Islam, as we know from Quran, is a religion of Peace, Justice and Freedom ( http://masjidtucson.org/publications/books/SP/1998/aug/page1.html ). All praise be to God.
