Orlando mass shooting: against the teachings of Submission to God (Islam)

The International Community of Submitters (ICS) / Masjid Tucson strongly condemns the mass shooting terror attack in Orlando, FL. A lone gunman, supposedly pledging allegiance to ISIL/ISIS, killed over 50 people and injured many more at a club in Orlando Florida. Such a barbaric and evil attack goes against God's religion and the peaceful teachings of the Quran.

Some have claimed the shooter was motivated by religious hate towards homosexuality. While homosexuality is a sin in the Bible and the Quran, it is clear from the Quran that it is completely wrong to kill anyone for this, as it would be wrong to take someone's God-given life because they were drinking or taking drugs. The shooter was obviously deluded by Satan and was ignorant of the Quran's teachings because God teaches us in the Quran that life is sacred (Quran 6:151, 17:33, 25:68), and there should be maximum freedom for all people, including the freedom of religion (Quran 2:256, 10:99, etc.). The religion of Submission to God (Islam in Arabic) and the Quran forbid all kinds of aggression and never condone murder.

The Major Commandments

[Quran 6:151] Say, "Come let me tell you what your Lord has really prohibited for you: You shall not set up idols besides Him. You shall honor your parents. You shall not kill your children from fear of poverty―we provide for you and for them. You shall not commit gross sins, obvious or hidden. You shall not kill―GOD has made life sacred―except in the course of justice. These are His commandments to you, that you may understand."

Grossness of Murder

[Quran 5:32] Because of this, we decreed for the Children of Israel that anyone who murders any person who had not committed murder or horrendous crimes, it shall be as if he murdered all the people. And anyone who spares a life it shall be as if he spared the lives of all the people. Our messengers went to them with clear proofs and revelations, but most of them, after all this, are still transgressing.

God also teaches us in the Quran that He does not love the aggressors (Quran 2:190-193). Those who murder and terrorize in the name of Islam are not Submitters to God (in Arabic, "Muslim") at all, and are instead committing horrendous crimes that are prohibited by God. The unrighteous groups including Daesh/ISIS do not represent Submission (Islam) in any way, and give God's peaceful religion a bad name. The Quran informs us that a righteous person must never aggress, nor be violent or belligerent (Quran 5:87, 7:33, 42:42, 50:24-25, 22:72, and many more verses).

[Quran 5:87] O you who believe, do not prohibit good things that are made lawful by GOD, and do not aggress; GOD dislikes the aggressors.

[Quran 3:104] Let there be a community of you who invite to what is good, advocate righteousness, and forbid evil. These are the winners.

To summarize, the religion of Islam (Submission) forbids murder and terrorist attacks in all forms. The Quran teaches absolute freedom of religion (2:256, 18:29), and God makes it clear that life is sacred (6:151, 17:33, 25:68).

As Submitters to God the focus is on worship of God and seeking God's approval in our daily lives. Our worship is best observed in peace (2:126, 14:35).
