Manchester Arena (UK) terrorist attack goes against teachings of Islam

Terrorism is evil; goes against Quranic teachings of non-aggression and sanctity of life

International Community of Submitters (ICS) / Masjid Tucson offers our sincere condolences to the families of the victims of the terror attacks. We pray that God guides the people of the world to peace and away from violence and bloodshed.

The attacker, identified as Salman Abedi, targeted people leaving an Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena. Over 20 people were killed and scores were injured. While details about the attacker's motivation and affiliation remain unclear at the time of writing this editorial, we want readers to know that no religion of God would ever justify or condone violence against innocent people. There is simply no justification for aggression, violence and murder. The grossness of murder is highlighted in the Quran and other scriptures:

Grossness of Murder

[Quran 5:32] Because of this, we decreed for the Children of Israel that anyone who murders any person who had not committed murder or horrendous crimes, it shall be as if he murdered all the people. And anyone who spares a life it shall be as if he spared the lives of all the people. Our messengers went to them with clear proofs and revelations, but most of them, after all this, are still transgressing.

By committing wanton acts of murder, so-called "Islamic" terrorists fulfill Satan's agenda, and do absolutely no good for God's religion (in fact they repel people from the path of God). The claims of "just" terror, seen on some pro-terrorist social media accounts, are completely illogical and baseless. There is no justice in the killing of innocent men, women and children. Who have the victims killed? What wrong have the victims done to deserve to be murdered?

The Quran, makes it very clear that any fighting must only be in self-defense and that God does not love the aggressors nor does He condone violence (Quran 2:190-193, 5:87, 7:33, 42:42, 50:24-25, 22:72, etc.). When God says life is sacred (Quran 6:151, 17:33, 25:68), who gives a terrorist authority to disobey God and take life? How will those who support terrorism answer God on the Day of Judgment?

[Quran 5:87] O you who believe, do not prohibit good things that are made lawful by GOD, and do not aggress; GOD dislikes the aggressors.

Rules of War*

[2:190] You may fight in the cause of GOD against those who attack you, but do not aggress. GOD does not love the aggressors.

*2:190 All fighting is regulated by the basic rule in 60:8-9. Fighting is allowed strictly in self-defense, while aggression and oppression are strongly condemned throughout the Quran.

The Major Commandments

[Quran 6:151] Say, "Come let me tell you what your Lord has really prohibited for you: ... You shall not commit gross sins, obvious or hidden. You shall not kill―GOD has made life sacred―except in the course of justice. These are His commandments to you, that you may understand."

To conclude, the religion of Islam (Submission) teaches that life is sacred. Terrorism and killing in the name of God has no place in God's religion. It goes against the Quranic teachings of sanctity of life, peaceful co-existence, and freedom for the people including freedom of religion (2:256, 18:29, 10:99, 88:21-22). A righteous person will seek to live in peace (2:126, 14:35), and will not support terrorism.

No Compulsion in Religion

[Quran 2:256] There shall be no compulsion in religion: the right way is now distinct from the wrong way. Anyone who denounces the devil and believes in GOD has grasped the strongest bond; one that never breaks. GOD is Hearer, Omniscient.

[Quran 3:104] Let there be a community of you who invite to what is good, advocate righteousness, and forbid evil. These are the winners.

We suggest readers see what God says in the Quran by reading it themselves.
