Istanbul airport terrorist attack: against the teachings of Submission to God (Islam) in Quran

The members of Masjid Tucson / International Community of Submitters (ICS) offer our condolences to the families of the victims of the terrorist attack in Istanbul, Turkey.

Gunmen armed with automatic weapons and explosive belts stormed Istanbul's Atatürk airport with the goal of harming and terrorizing people. Over forty people were killed and over two hundred injured due to the shooting and bomb explosions. We strongly condemn these Satanic terrorist attacks which are against God's religion and the peaceful teachings of the Quran.

While no group has claimed responsibility yet, Turkish officials believe the terrorists were acting on behalf of the so-called "Islamic" State terrorist group (also known as ISIS / ISIL).

The religion of Islam (Submission to God) and the Quran, God's word, command Submitters to God (Muslims in Arabic) to advocate righteousness and forbid evil (Quran 3:104). A true Muslim advocates peaceful coexistence (Quran 60:8), not aggression and terrorism.

God tells us in very strong language that life is sacred (Quran 6:151, 17:33, 25:68) and that there should be freedom of religion (Quran 2:256, 10:99, etc.). Murdering even one person is equated with murdering all the people (Quran 5:32).

No Compulsion in Religion

[Quran 2:256] There shall be no compulsion in religion: the right way is now distinct from the wrong way. Anyone who denounces the devil and believes in GOD has grasped the strongest bond; one that never breaks. GOD is Hearer, Omniscient.

Grossness of Murder

[Quran 5:32] Because of this, we decreed for the Children of Israel that anyone who murders any person who had not committed murder or horrendous crimes, it shall be as if he murdered all the people. And anyone who spares a life it shall be as if he spared the lives of all the people. Our messengers went to them with clear proofs and revelations, but most of them, after all this, are still transgressing.

God also teaches us in the Quran that He does not love the aggressors (Quran 2:190-193, 5:87). Fighting is allowed strictly in self-defense, while aggression and oppression are strongly condemned throughout the Quran (2:190-193, 5:87, 7:33, 42:42, 50:24-25, 22:72, etc.). Those who misguidedly kill innocent people in God's name should know that God never advocates sin (Quran 7:28).

[Quran 5:87] O you who believe, do not prohibit good things that are made lawful by GOD, and do not aggress; GOD dislikes the aggressors.

[Quran 7:28] They commit a gross sin, then say, "We found our parents doing this, and GOD has commanded us to do it." Say, "GOD never advocates sin. Are you saying about GOD what you do not know?"

Our invitation to the true Muslims seeking to strive and please God is to not resort to terrorism. Instead, to make the "difficult" choices to please God including feeding those in need, taking care of the orphans and the poor, and being steadfast and kind (90:10-18).

[Quran 90:10-18] Did we not show him the two paths? He should choose the difficult path. Which one is the difficult path?
The freeing of slaves. Feeding, during the time of hardship. Orphans who are related. Or the poor who is in need.
And being one of those who believe, and exhorting one another to be steadfast, and exhorting one another to be kind. These have deserved happiness.

In conclusion, the Quran teaches there is no compulsion in religion (2:256, 18:29), and reminds us that life is sacred (6:151, 17:33, 25:68) and naturally forbids murder and terrorism. As followers of God's laws, Submitters (Muslims) advocate what is good and forbid evil (3:104, 4:114).

Absolute Freedom of Religion

[Quran 18:29] Proclaim: "This is the truth from your Lord," then whoever wills let him believe, and whoever wills let him disbelieve. ...

[Quran 3:104] Let there be a community of you who invite to what is good, advocate righteousness, and forbid evil. These are the winners.
